September

For our last trip of the year, late September/October, we based ourselves at a house in Strokestown. It was an ideal place to stay. The owner is a very pleasant man and his house is perfect.  The weather was perfect for this time of the year with warm sunshine for most of the time.

Well, that's it for another year. We hope to be back in the Spring of 2016

May

For our first trip of 2015 we stayed near Longford.  The weather was dreadful!  Gale force winds, thunderstorms, hailstones and very cold.

Needless to say the fishing was very poor, in fact, probably the worst it's been in my 47 years coming over to Ireland.

The roach run from Lough Ree up the River Inny would normally have finished long before now but on leaving Ireland on May 22nd it hadn't even started!

We fished the canal around Ballymahon but it wasn't great. Some days you couldn't even buy a bite. I don't know for certain what the problem was but I suspect the cold weather for May had a lot to do with it.

Speaking to visiting anglers and resident anglers, they all said the same.

In spite of the conditions, we did manage to catch a few fish.

My best catch was at Fiogha Harbour where I managed 9 tench and a few roach.
